Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Economics at Florida Atlantic University.

With some 27,000 students located on its 7 campuses in sub-tropical southeastern Florida, Florida Atlantic University is one of the fastest growing universities in the region.

The Department of Economics is part of the College of Business, itself one of the largest colleges in the University, with over 6,000 students.

Within the Department of Economics, students have access to an innovative curriculum with an opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in economics. At the undergraduate level the department offers a Business Economics Program, a General Economic program and an International Economics Program. Our recent graduates have gone on to successful careers in a wide range of areas, including private industry, government and international organizations. Our programs have been very successful in placing students in leading graduate programs in business, economics and law. We are also proud to offer a comprehensive and flexible graduate program that offers masters students a number of different specialty tracks, such International Economics and Financial Economics.

The Department of Economics consists of a group of outstanding faculty with a diverse set of expertise. Our faculty is firmly dedicated to offering all students an excellent education while pursuing competitive research agendas that are respected by national standards. In the past few years the department has been fortunate to add a number of new promising assistant professors. Our faculty holds ambitious research agendas, publishing in leading economic journals and regularly attending national and international economic conferences. Given the projected growth for the university, our current plans are to continue to expand with an emphasis on building a nationally recognized research department that offers nothing short of an excellent teaching environment.

With our new location in the Barry Kaye Hall, within a newly completed three-building Business School complex, the keywords for the future are ambition and growth. The Department of Economics is on the move and we welcome your interest in us.
